3 Days Mikumi National Park safari from Dar es Salaam highlights

Day 1: Drive from your hotel in Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park for an afternoon game drive.

Day 2: Spend the entire day exploring Mikumi National Park’s wildlife.

Day 3: A morning game drive, then a return to Dar es Salaam.

Day 1: Depart for Mikumi National Park from Dar es Salaam.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam or the airport on the first day of your safari and taken along the Dar es Salaam-Morogoro highway to Mikumi National Park. The park is ideally positioned between the Great Rift Valley Escarpment to the park’s southwest and the Uluguru Mountains of the Ancient Eastern Arc Mountains to its east. The trip from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi takes about 4–4.5 hours and is a short distance away on a nice tarmac road. When you get there at about noon, you’ll immediately go on game drives through the park while packing a picnic lunch. We travel to the camp for dinner and the night later in the afternoon.

Spend the night at Camp Bastian, a charming hotel with all the amenities of a five-star hotel that is situated on the park’s perimeter just outside Mikumi Park National Park. During the dry season, you can take a dip in the lodge’s lovely swimming pool and lovely gardens to escape the sweltering African sun. Included are a lunchbox and dinner.

Vuma Hills Tented Camp and Mikumi Wildlife Camp offer luxurious lodging. Tanswiss Lodge and Mikumi Park Bandas are two options for midrange accommodation.

Day 2: Spend the entire day exploring Mikumi National Park’s wildlife.

Have a packed lunch on a full-day game drive through the Mikumi National Park, or take morning and afternoon drives with lunch breaks at the lodge or tented camp. Together with the Selous Game Reserve, Mikumi National Park makes up the greater Selous Ecosystem and is home to a staggering variety of bird and animal species. Giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, impalas, warthogs, zebras, wildebeests, elands, and numerous more antelopes are among the wildlife that can be seen at Mikumi. You can embark on a guided walking safari in addition to game drives in the park, which are led by armed rangers. Spend the night outside the park at Camp Bastian or the Matembezi Safari Lodge in Mikumi. Included are a lunchbox and dinner.

Day 3: A morning game drive, then a return to Dar es Salaam.

This morning, after breakfast, check out of the lodge or camp and drive back to Dar es Salaam, where the safari concludes. If you are returning home or flying to Zanzibar, you will be dropped off at your hotel or the Dar es Salaam Airport. If you’re not in a rush, you can take one more game drive in the morning on this third day for an additional USD 36 park entry cost. Please let us know well in advance if you want us to pay this on your behalf because we need to process the payment online through the TANAPA payment system.

This marks the third and final day of 3 days safari from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park.
