This 3 Days Mountain Sabinyo mountain hiking safari is intended for those interested in Mountain Sabinyo hiking. In the course of this 3 days Mountain Sabinyo Hiking Safari you will be able to hike to the summit Mountain Sabinyo in Mgahinga National Park . Mountain Sabinyo is the smallest among the Gahinga Ranges and one of the three inactive volcanoes based Virunga ranges in southwestern Uganda. Others include Mount Bisoke, Muhabura, Mikeno, Karisimbi, Nyiragongo, Gahinga and Nyamuragira. Sabinyo is a local name meaning “Old man’s tooth” due to its sharp summit that is looking like damaged teeth when compared to more levelled summits of neighboring mountains. Mount Sabyinyo is 12,037 feet high with a peak that is acting as a boundary for three countries – Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. So when you reach at its peak, you will be in 3 countries at the same time, though you cannot hike it from other countries –Rwanda and DR Congo because they do not have clear and safe trails. This safari can either begin or end at Entebbe international airport / Kampala city or Kigali airport or Kigali city.

Day 1; Pick up from Entebbe / Kigali airport or any hotel in Kampala /Kigali – Transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park

Your driver guide will pick you from Entebbe / Kigali international airport or at any hotel in Kampala or Kigali city to begin your start your adventurous scenic drive to Mgahinga gorilla national park in southwestern Uganda where Mount Sabinyo is based. If you are start from Entebbe international airport or Kampala city, on your way to park, you will have an en-route stop at the Equator for water experiment and capturing some memorial photos proceed with your drive with another stop to have lunch at Mbarara and drive straight to check in at your lodge to relax, dinner and an overnight.

Day 2; Mgahinga gorilla national park – Early Morning Mount Sabinyo mountain Hiking

Today after your breakfast, transfer to the park information center for briefing by your UWA ranger guide and then start your hike to the summit of Mount Sabinyo.  The summit of Mount Sabinyo lies at 3,645 meters (11,959 ft), the summit of this park is the joint point of the borders Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo so, when you reach at this point, you will be in 3 countries at the same time. Mount Sabinyo hiking is a one day activity which takes approximately 8 hours which include 4 hours climbing to the summit and 4 hours sloping down to the bottom but this might change depending on the weather conditions and physical fitness of the climbers. The hike will you through different vegetation ranges like sub-alpine kind of vegetation with fewer trees but home to the rare Rwenzori Turaco and bamboo zone between 2400 – 2800m which is the most know habitat of golden monkeys and other wildlife species such as forest elephants, buffaloes, many bird species and by chance, you may encounter mountain gorillas around this area and your UWA rangers will give you information of everything that you will encounter which will make your hike so adventurous. Once you reach at the summit, you will have a nice view of the beautiful Lake Kivu in Rwanda, Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda, the mountain Rwenzori ranges in Uganda, forests in DR Congo, over six mountains of the Virunga region and many other countless features. After reaching at the summit and enjoying all the good views, slope to the starting point to return to your lodge to relax, dinner and an overnight.

Day 3; Mgahinga gorilla national park – Return to Entebbe airport/Kampala or Kigali airport / Kigali city

This day will be the end of your 3 Days Mountain Sabinyo hiking Safari to Mgahinga gorilla National park in Uganda. So after your morning breakfast, you will meet your driver at the reception to drive back to either Entebbe international/ Kampala or Kigali airport for your return flight home with much to remember about your safari. The drop off will be either at airport of your hotel.
