Visit Semuliki national park in the Western parts of Uganda in Bundibugyo district and it is the newest destination than other national parks of Uganda that cuts across Semuliki valley in the western Rwenzori Mountains and also stretches in the eastern parts of Ituri forest of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Zaire River.

Semuliki national park is the best place for bird lovers with over 441 bird species that have been recorded, of which 40% of Uganda’s total species and 66% of the forest birds are found in Uganda.  Some of the birds in Semuliki national park are also normally spotted in the Congo areas of Africa but and that one is only found in the Albertine Western Rift such as the rare shoebill stork. Hence this has made Semuliki national park to be among the best birding destination in Uganda.

On your trip to Semuliki national park meet the Batwa pygmy community. The Semuliki Valley has a lot of features mostly in central than eastern Africa. Thatched huts are shaded by West African oil palms, the Semliki River which stretches on the border of Uganda and the Congo. With 4 different ethnic groups live along the park such as Batwa pygmies on the edges of the forest and they are traditionally hunter-gathers, Bwamb in the base of the Rwenzori mountains who depend on farming whereas the Bakonjo cultivate the mountain slopes and the Batuku dwell on the open plains and they are known as cattle keepers.

The park has also recorded over 30 species of butterflies including Charaxes and 46 species of forest Swallowtails and over 235 species of moths have been classified as restricted.

Semuliki national park has over 305 species of trees that have been identified, and among them, 125 species are restricted only in Semuliki National park.

Visit Sempaya hot springs, the most trending tourist attraction in Semuliki national park with an amazing experience. Sempaya hot springs include the male hot spring which is known as Bintente with 12 meters in diameter and it is in a lush swampy clearing and the female hot spring is called Nyasimbi, meaning “the female ancestors” by local people. They also had a belief that barren women can get fertile and deliver that is why the women could visit the place to get fertility to bear a child. Female hot springs can boil up to a temperature of 103 0 c.

Boat cruise on Lake Albert, this activity is also among the top best attraction within the park which attracts most of the tourists to visit Semuliki national park and take a boat ride. With an exceptional experience to see different aquatic life including the rare Shoebill stork. Other places In Uganda where you can see this unique bird in Mabamba Wetland Sanctuary and Murchison Falls along the Nile Delta.
