Volcanoes National Park Entrance Fees: Volcanoes National Park is located in northern Rwanda’s Ruhengeri District and is home to numerous national park attractions, notably the endangered mountain gorillas. The park also has the magnificent Virunga Mountains as well as other primates. Visitors can participate in all of these activities. Any of these requires a gorilla permit. They are charged differently depending on the visitor’s country of origin, and groups receive discounts on some activities like hiking and cultural trips.

Foreigners, foreign residents, Rwandan/EAC nationals, and EAC foreign residents are the four types of visitors who pay separate fees at this park. The park’s entrance rates vary due to a variety of tax considerations, with cheaper fees for citizens.

Hiking in Bisoke costs $75 for foreigners, $60 for Rwandans, $55 for East African citizens, and $65 for inhabitants of the East African Community. Buhanga Eco Park day trips cost $40 for foreigners, $30 for foreign residents, $25 for Rwandan and East African Community nationals, and $35 for East African Community foreign residents.
Overnight stays at Buhanga EcoPark Plus Camp are charged extra. Foreigners pay US$60, foreign residents pay US$50, Rwandans and European Community citizens pay US$40, and European Community foreigners pay US$55.
The Musanze Caves cost US$50 for tourists; US$30 for foreign residents; 4,000 Rwandan francs for Rwandan and European Community citizens; and US$30 for European Community foreign residents.
The Dian Fossey Hiking Permit for Volcanoes National Park costs US $75 for foreigners, US $60 for foreign residents, US $55 for Rwanda/EAC citizens, and US $65 for EAC foreign residents. Permits to hike Mt. Gahinga cost US$75 for foreigners, US$60 for foreign residents, US$55 for Rwandan and EAC citizens, and US$65 for EAC foreign residents.
Permits for Golden Monkeys cost US$100 for foreigners, US$65 for foreign residents, US$65 for Rwandan and EAC citizens, and US$80 for EAC foreigners.
Mountain gorilla licenses cost US$1,500 for mountain gorilla trekking in Rwanda and are the same for all guests, both nationals and foreigners. Foreigners pay $400 for the Karisimbi mountaineering permit; expats pay $250; Rwandan EAC citizens pay $200; and EAC foreigners pay $300. Because this is a two-day hike, make arrangements for additional services such as a porter or chef. This fee does not include them; just the lodging and hiking fees are included.
Muhabura hiking permits cost $100 for non-residents; $75 for foreigners; $60 for Rwandan and European Community citizens; and $80 for European Community foreign residents. Hiking licenses for Muhabura- mgahinga cost $200 for foreigners, $160 for foreign residents, $130 for Rwanda and EAC citizens, and $165 for EAC foreign residents. Rwandans and EAC nationals pay $35, while EAC foreign residents pay $45.
Hikers can purchase multiple volcano hiking permits for Mt. Gahinga, Mt. Muhura, Mt. Bisoke, and Mt. Karisimbi for US$1,500. Camping fees are $30 for non-residents and foreigners; $10 for Rwandans and EAC citizens; and $20 for EAC foreign residents.
You must show documentation of your foreign resident status or you will be charged the foreign entrance price. To avoid last-minute disappointments, permits must be obtained in advance.
