In the eastern parts of the is the highest altitude found which is known as Rwamunyonyi hill while the lowest part in the northern parts.

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is one of the popular destinations in the whole world but this is because it is home to almost half of the few remaining mountain gorillas in the world. Mountain gorillas are highly endangered animals because of poaching, diseases, and loss of their natural habitat and this forest protects over 550 individuals. Bwindi Forest is one of the areas where the country generates high revenues if compared to other national parks of Uganda.

Mgahinga gorilla national park: This is the smallest national park not only in southwestern but also in their entire parts of Uganda. It was gazetted in 1991 and is one of the gorilla destinations that you should consider while planning a gorilla safari in the pearl of Africa. This smallest national park in Uganda is covering an area of about 33.7 sq kilometers, this dense forest is a natural habitat for endangered mountain gorillas, Bird species, the rare golden monkeys, and others. The Park protects over 80 mountain gorillas with only one habituated gorilla family which is open for trekking by tourists. Mgahinga gorilla national park stands at an elevation of between 2.227 and 4.1127 meters. Kibale forest national park: This Park is one the best national park in the western parts of Uganda in the Kamwenge districts. Kalinzu forest: This is near to Maramagambo forest of Queen Elizabeth national park.
