5 Days Mount Elgon Uganda Tour

The 5 days Uganda tour will take you Mount Elgon national park in the eastern region Uganda for mountain hiking. Mount Elgon is one of Uganda’s oldest physical features that was formed by volcanic eruption which first erupting around 24 million years ago. Mount Elgon was once the highest mountain in Africa far surpassing Kilimanjaro that is the current highest with over 5,895m due to the Millennia of erosion, its height was reduced to 4,321m that which relegated it to the 4th mountain with the highest peak in East Africa and 8th on the continent. Mount Elgon has the leading volcanic base in the world. Mount Elgon national park has a cool heights offering a better breathing space from the hot plains below and higher altitudes making a refugee camp to numerous flora and fauna. So, it is a home to over 300 species of birds, including the endangered Lammergeyer and several mammals.

Day 1; Pick up from Entebbe airport or Kampala – Drive to Mount Elgon national park

On your arrival at Entebbe international airport or after your breakfast at your hotel, meet your driver guide after a briefing about your 5 Days Mount Elgon Tour Uganda and then setoff to Mount Elgon national park that is found in Eastern Uganda on the Ugandan and Kenyan border. On your way, you will visit Sezibwa falls. Sezibwa Falls are very important to the history of Buganda history and culture because it’s believed that these falls have supernatural powers as the local site guide will narrate to you, then continue with your drive to Jinja to explore the source of the River Nile that is the longest in Africa and second longest in the world. You will take a boat from the shores to the exact point where John speke stood to explore the source of the Nile. Then proceed with your drive to Sipi falls with an en-route stop to have Lunch and refreshment at Mbale town proceed to explore Sipi falls and later drive to Budadiri for dinner and an overnight

Day 2 – Budadiri – Hike to Sasa camp to Mude Camp – 3500m

After having your heavy, drive from Budadiri 7km to Bumasora 1770m – the hike starting point for the hike along with the required logistics, porter/helper, UWA ranger guides and then start your hike from trailhead up to the park boundary 2190m to Sasa Camp which as about 2900m making a distance of about 6km 4 – 5 hrs.

Day 3; Sasa Camp – Hike Mude Camp

Rise up early in the morning to have breakfast and then continue with your breakfast through the forest to the peak camp of Mude Cave Campsite to have refreshments, relax, dinner and overnight. It takes about 4 to 5 hours, 3500m, and 5.5km.

Day 4; Mude Camp – Hike to Wagagai Peak – Return to Mude Camp

After having breakfast, continue with your adventurous hike to explore the beautiful Wagagai Peak that is 4321m above sea level which will give you a breathtaking view of some parts of Uganda and Kenya since the park is found on the borders of Uganda and Kenya. The Wagagai peak is 9km from Mude camp therefore, hiking to the summit and descending will take you about 8 hours. After enjoying the highest peak of Mount Elgon return to Mude Camp for dinner and an overnight.

Day 5; Mude Camp – Slope to Budadiri – Drive back to Entebbe international airport

After having breakfast, slope to Budadiri and then drive back to Entebbe international airport with an en-route to shop some snack and then drive back to Entebbe international airport or Kampala with an en-route stop to have lunch from Jinja city and proceed with your drive to Entebbe airport to end your 5 Days Mount Elgon Tour Uganda or you may decide to spend a night in Kampala or Entebbe.
