Lemek conservancy around Masai Mara National Reserve
Lemek conservancy is one of the areas around Masai Mara National Reserve where you can go and do your game drive safaris around the Masai Mara National Reserve.
The Lemek Conservancy is found in the north region of the Masai Mara National Reserve and it sits on a total area of about 19000 acres of land and it helps in the maximization of the Mara ecosystem. Conservation must be sustainable such that the future generation can as well enjoy the fruits of the conservation
Lemek Conservancy was previously known as the Koyaili Lemek Conservancy, a name given to it in honor of the local community where the conservancy belongs and the founding members of the Kiyaili Group Ranch.
However, after realizing the benefits of the conservancy, more other tourism stakeholders and local communities combined and joined the Koyaili Group Ranch and after this, the name immediately changed.
Some of the parts of the land were again merged to form the Mara North and this later increased the size of the conservation to increase it to its current status of 19000 acres. However, the official statistics regarding the size of the Lemek conservancy are not yet released and thus quoting the estimated figures above.
Lemek conservancy land was originally occupied and owned by the local people of the Masai before the Koyaiki Group Ranch took over and later the Lemek Conservancy and this somehow somewhere brought in some managerial challenges that affected the conservancy.
Another challenge is the conflicting challenges of balancing the local community needs and then the desire to protect the wild animals especially those that face a lot of threats from the encroachment dome by the adjacent local community members.
The Conservancy has so many advantages in that the game viewing in this conservancy can be done throughout the year in the open savannah grassland that dominates the whole conservancy.
The savannah grasslands are also associated with the scattered acacia trees that go alongside the Mara river and this kind of vegetation attracts the big cats such as the leopards that sometimes are found in the tree above.
This area is so interesting especially during the wildebeest migration when the wildlife is more in Lemek conservancy. Night game drives, off-road game viewing, the guided nature walks, and cultural or community tours are among the several benefits that come with visitors who visit the Conservancy around Masai Mara National Reserve.
Lemek conservancy also boasts several accommodation facilities most those for budget travelers and they are constructed by about 2 member accommodation and these include the Enkerende Tented Camp and the Mare Liver Lodge. These all together have got the capacity of about eighty room but for the visitors on Budget.
