How Do Gorillas Greet Each Other? Seeing mountain gorillas greet each other is very rare but it’s been recorded those gorillas greet each other by touching their noses together and sometimes even embrace each other. There are 22 distinctive common sounds that gorillas make while communicating different feelings.

Gorillas mainly use vocalizations to communicate to one another and the silverback is the one that makes these vocalizations often, the newborn baby mountain gorillas always use different kinds of vocalizations to communicate to their mothers such as whimpering, crying, and screaming.

Gorillas also use all their senses just like human beings like hearing and smelling, touching and so much more, silverbacks can emit a very specific scent that can be smelt from any meters away by other members of the group alerting them of danger without making any noise.

Adult gorillas can use about eight vocalizations in an hour especially while traveling for knowing the whereabouts of each other; these can be classified as grunts, hoots, barks, and many other variations. Gorillas also use body postures and facial expressions to show their moods.

Gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking has turned out to be one of the most done activities in Africa with thousands of tourists coming in every year to encounter their close relatives. The most commonly trekked species of gorillas are mountain gorillas found in Virunga national park in DR Congo, volcanoes national park in Rwanda as well as Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga gorilla park in Uganda.

Gorilla trekking takes you hiking for several hours in the montane rainforest where gorillas live and this requires you to be physically fit. Once you find the gorilla family you are given a maximum of one hour to observe them and also take photos for memories. When preparing for a gorilla trek, you must carry waterproof hiking shoes, garden gloves, insect repellents, sunscreen, a hat, warm-sleeved clothes, and energy-giving snacks.

Gorilla permits

The cost of gorilla permits depends on the country where you are going to trek from. Uganda charges $700 foreign non-residents, $600 foreign residents, and shs250,000 East African citizens, DR Congo charges $450 in the high season and $200 in the low season while Rwanda charges $1500. You are advised to buy permits 3-4 months in advance most especially when you are to trek in the high season.

What to carry for gorilla trekking Tour?

Before going gorilla trekking, you must be physically fit because they live higher on the mountains where you will need to hike. You need to book a gorilla permit in advance before coming to the country. You need to bring along sunglasses, a hat, waterproof hiking boots, a waterproof backpack, garden gloves, insect repellents, and on the day of trekking you must carry along enough drinking water and energy-giving snacks.
