All of this is experienced in the ostrich park in Mamba Village. The largest and heaviest birds in the world, ostriches are flightless creatures. The Greek word “camel sparrow” is where their scientific name Struthio camelus comes from. They are commonly referred to as “mbuni” in the local Kiswahili dialect. Ostriches are particularly common in Africa, though they are required to be housed in almost every zoo in the world. The birds, who are also regarded as strong runners, have long, sturdy legs despite having only two toes per foot.
