Gorilla trekking permit prices differ depending on the country where you will trek gorillas from, Uganda is the best option for backpackers to trek mountain gorillas because they have cheaper permits compared to Rwanda though DR Congo offers the lowest gorilla permits, the political instability in the country makes it hard for tourism to take place. Permits in Rwanda cost $1500 per person per trek, in Uganda, it’s $700 foreign nonresidents, $600 foreign residents, shs250,000 East African citizens while in DR Congo the permits cost $450 in the dry season and $200 in the low season.

Best time to go gorilla trekking while backpacking

All gorilla national parks can be visited at any time of the year but the best time to trek these giant apes is the dry season from December to February and June to September when there is little or no rainfall making the trails and roads passable.
