The summit of Kilimanjaro

The Kilimanjaro summit is the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 5895 meters. It is a snow-capped mountain, and it has got a large stratovolcano with 3 peaks, namely the Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo. The mountain is known for its climbing safaris and it is visited by people throughout the year. People can see the visitors coming to hike the safari all year round. Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller made the first ascent of Kibo, the Kilimanjaro summit, in 1889. The mountain has a variety of climate zones, including arctic, alpine desert, moorland, and shrub areas. There are five ways to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro: the Marangu route, the Rongai route, the Machame route, the Shira route, and the Lemosho route. The several ascent routes up Mount Kilimanjaro differ in terms of their degree of difficulty, the number of ascents they receive, and the scenery they pass through.

One of the routes taken by hikers ascending Mount Kilimanjaro is the Rongai route. By taking this path, climbers can access the mountain’s northern side, which is close to the Kenyan border. Using this method, reaching the summit of the peak takes roughly 6 to 7 days. Compared to the Marangu path, which is used for descent, this route is less congested and also a reasonably challenging one to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro.

On Mount Kilimanjaro, the Marangu route is thought to be the most historic. Using this route, which makes stops at Mandara, Kibo, and Horombo huts, it takes roughly 5 to 6 days to reach the peak. This path, which has a modest slope and approaches from the southeast, is regarded as the easiest one to hike. Although this route is significantly simpler to climb than others on the Kilimanjaro mountain, it is less picturesque.

On the tallest peak in Africa, hikers also take the Lemosho route. The Shira camp, the lava tower, the Barranco hut, and Barafu are all reached via this path, which approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the western side. The southern circuit is another name for this path, and it takes roughly eight days to reach the summit. While ascending Mount Kilimanjaro’s numerous sides utilizing this path, climbers also get to take in a lot of beautiful scenery.

In comparison to other routes, the Machame route up Mount Kilimanjaro has higher slopes. It is also suggested for hikers who are more daring because it enters the mountain from the southern side via the ice before reaching the peak. This route provides incredibly picturesque vistas and takes six to seven days or longer to reach the mountain’s summit.

A particularly spectacular path, the Shira route also originates from the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro and travels past the Shira Ridge, Simba Camp, Moir Hut, Barraco Camp, and on to the Southern Circuit. A vehicle can get to the starting point using the Shira route. Approximately 7 to 8 days are needed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro using this approach.
