Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda: Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda is one of the many sorts of tourism activities available to visitors to Rwanda. Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda takes place in volcanoes in Nyungwe forest national Park. The most popular tourist activity in Rwanda is mountain gorilla trekking, but the chimpanzee trekking has also made the trip to Rwanda so much enjoying  more fun.

A chimpanzee trekking permit in Rwanda costs $90 for foreign visitors, $60 for foreign residents whereas chimpanzee trekking permit costs 5,000 for Rwandans. The event is guided and takes place in the forests of Nyungwe,and  Gishwati-Mukula national parks. In Rwanda, there are two national parks where you can go chimp trekking: Nyungwe Forest National Park and Gishwati Mukula National Park. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park is the most popular choice for people on safari in Rwanda who want to see chimps. The Nyungwe Forest National Park is situated in the Nyungwe Forest is the habitat to chimpanzees. The Winka Reception Center, Kitabi Reception Center, or Gisakura Reception Center are the starting points for chimp treks in the Nyungwe Forest.

Guests who sign up for the chimp trek must come to the front desk between 4:30 and 5 a.m. for a pre-trip briefing  and after the briefing, they will  proceed directly to the starting location. The  chimpanzee trekking trip begins at 5:30 a.m. from the Winka Center and will take the you to the family deep in the forest.

The chimps may be found in the Cyamudongo side of the Nyungwe Forest, which also has roughly 30 families to visit. The team’s  will leave the Gisakura office. The Gisakura office is only a 30-minute drive from the Gisakura Visitors Center.

How to Obtain a Chimpanzee Visit Permit

African Parks manages Nyungwe Forest National Park, and reservations are required ahead of time. The park’s front desk does not take cash payments. Upon arriving at the park, an invoice and proof of payment must be presented.

To enjoy this activity in the Nyungwe Forest, permission to hike to the chimps should be obtained from a reputable tour company such as Africa Adventure Vacations. The chimp trekking activity  can be arranged at any time of year and is available to anyone aged 16 and over. Only  visitors  with  National proving they are over the recommended age will be permitted; youngsters under the age of 15 will not be permitted.

Some activities in the Nyungwe Forest, such as the Canopy Walkway top forest tour, are available to tourists under the age of 15, but they must be accompanied by an adult.

 After visiting  the Nyungwe forest national park, the visitors can explore other parks such as the volcanoes national park for gorillas and Golden monkey trekking, Akagera national for the wildlife safari  and Gishwati-Mukula National Park to witness two types of great apes on one Rwanda vacation.

Chimpanzees are similar to mountain gorillas but differ in several respects, including being more energetic and bouncy. Chimpanzees, like mountain gorillas, make a new nest every night and can nest in treetops. Chimpanzees have up to 98.7% human DNA, which is visible when visiting them while they are doing their thing. Chimpanzees are highly intelligent animals that communicate using the signs that can be understandable to them.
