Agashya Gorilla Family

The Agashya Gorilla Family, also known as group 13, can be found in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda. The Agashya gorilla family is very easy to identify and easily know, and at the moment, the group features twenty-five members, featuring twelve females, three juveniles, and the best safari destination. The name Group 13 is derived from the 13 members who founded the group at the time it was formed. Agashya initially dominated Group 13, but Nyakairima took control of the group.

When Agashya took over the organization, the name also had to be altered to “Agashya.” Group 13’s alternate name, however, remains. In Kinyarwanda, the word “agasha” means “news.” Agashya won numerous heated skirmishes and took over the leadership of the gang after judging Nyakairima’s credibility several times. Nyakailima claims to have expanded his family from 12 to 25 people. Agashya is particularly concerned about his safety, and if he believes he is in danger, he will lead the group to rise, sometimes even worried.

This group has the same habitat as the Sabayo gorillas. Both communities live on the slopes of Mount Sabayo, the largest of the Virunga volcanoes. Are you naturally defensive and security-conscious? If this is the case, you must obtain a permit for this mountain gorilla group. Please keep in mind that gorilla trekking is limited to a maximum of 8 people over the age of 15. Trekking normally takes between 2 and 8 hours, depending on the difficulty of getting to the gorillas and the previous day’s activities. This period involves encounters with these gentle giants in their native habitat and is an excellent opportunity to photograph their incredible moments, bond with them, and study their everyday lives.

Volcanoes National Park is open all year, but the ideal months to visit are June to September and December to February, when the weather is nice and the trekking paths are in good shape.
